A blog dedicated to Nepali students studying and planning to study in the US.

My name is Smita. I was born and brought up in the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu. I completed my higher secondary education in year 2002. I had already started planning to come to the States for higher education when she was still in twelfth grade. Soon after graduating from high school, I mentally prepared myself this huge decision. I started my preparation for the US universities by taking standardized tests like TOEFL and SATs. Soon after, I began my application process and applied to about six different colleges and universities. Like many of my other friends, I came to the States in 2003.

Coming to the United States was a big dream come true for me. I was very excited about furthering my higher education in the US. At the same time, I was nervous about leaving my family, my friends and everything I know behind me. I had never had to lead an independent life until I got in the plane to fly to the US. At that point, I had so many questions that a college counselor could not answer. I wanted to know what to expect when my airplane landed here, but there was not a way for me to get that information while still in Nepal. I think if I just got a chance to get a glimpse of this great country talking to someone who was pursuing their education in the US, I would have not just been lot more relaxed about my trip here but planned my trip very differently.

Through this blog, I want to provide Nepali students who are planning to come to the US and new Nepali Students in the US with the kind of information that I was seeking in the year 2003. I hope to provide help, guidance, suggestions and tips to those who have questions and concerns about their great life-changing leap to the US.
